After you backup, SSH into your device or use ifile and navigate to /var/mobile/library/cybackups/backups and save all three files. In ifile you can email a copy of them to yourself so you have it saved. Then just download and save to your computer before updating or restoring. Once you have restored simply copy the files back to your device. If you have Attachment saver you can simply save directly from the mail app onto your device.
